Blogging is a way for me to express my thoughts. It is a way for me to collect my interests as well. Blogging let me share my world to the world.
My hobby used to be painting my collectible cottages and buildings, making cottages, paintings. I have no time for all these now. My hobby now is blogging.
Blogging has become my hobby since I created my first blog, Peace Starts With A Smile, some years back. Blogging is fun. I love writing.
Today I received an email from Meagan. Meagan, thanks for your time to write to me. Receiving her mail was so nice. I got assurance that my blog has reached out to people out there. And out there, there is someone with similar situation to me.

Pros and cons of blogging for money
Pros or Cons of blogging for money really depends on what you want and what is your expectations. As for me, this is my view about the pros and cons of blogging for money.
Putting the issue of money aside, the pros of blogging is people can share their thoughts, views and opinions online easily. They can share pictures and videos too. This has bring the world closer together. People can get to see the cultures, lifestyles, traditions etc of other countries. This can be a recreation, a hobby and entertainment for some people.
Your blog is something personal to you. You are the creator and you have every rights how you want to maximize the full usage of your blog. Using your blog as a source of avenues for money could be a new challenge to the blogger. For the youngsters such as students especially, it helps to build entrepreneurs spirit in them. Through writings, they can earn extra income, in so doing, they can learn to be independent as well.
Another advantage of blogging for money is that it is easy. Any retirees or students can sign up for an account and start blogging. Blogging for money create more income opportunities for bloggers and at the same time, job openings and income opportunites for online websites and companies as well. It makes a win-win situation for all.
The disadvantages of it is that blogging is not so much professional. To me it looks informal. However, it is a informal way of interaction with the general public too. So it is rather fair as well.
Depending on your qualification and your earning potential, if you can earn good income from your job, then blogging for money is not worth the time for you. A lot of time is spent on blogging — writing up (posting), editing the templates (design of the blog), advertising (get readers to your blog) etc, but the earning is not a lot.
Many website developers have seen that many people want to blog for money. They encourage people to write for money, sign up account with them and start blogging. However, these people do not get paid in the end. They provide various reasons to delay payment. This is where the disadvantage of blogging for money is — the existence of unethical and dishonest people who make use of bloggers for their own benefits.

How to generate traffic to your blog
Just like any business, if you want customers to visit your shop, the first thing you need to do is to create awareness. You have to let people know that you exist. There is no instant magic overnight. I created my blog a few years back. My first blog is Peace Starts With A Smile. Blogging was a new and hot topic then. I do not know anything about blogging. I just signed up and started a testing post.
It was a year or so later that I had decided to do something about my blog. These few years, I have been blogging. I am a blogger. The purpose of blogging is to let your blog be shown and be read. For this purpose to be successful, there must be traffic to your site. How do I generate more traffic to my blog? Here are some tips from me:
1. Go to other people’s blogs, leave your sincere comments on them. When you visit people’s blogs, they will visit your blog too. While leaving comments, it is good to have link exchange with various bloggers. These could be links put in blogroll of your friend’s blogs or even listing your blog at Technorati! This will expose your blogs to more people slowly.
2. Update your blog as frequently as possible. Whenever you update your blog, the homepage of the site will show a list of recent posts. Your blog will be seen by more people. In addition, your frequent reader to your blog will always come back to your blog if you are committed in your blog. This is just like doing any real life business. We always like to visit business or shop who is committed in their job. One who opens on a day and close on another day would not build a good reputation.
3. List your blogs in directories or search engines. There are numerous directories online. Just like yellow pages, the purpose of directories is to help people to search for information they want. Listing your blogs widely in different directories such as Blogranker, Blogtopsites, Blogsg, etc, would expose your blogs to a wide range of people. Visit my blogs to see the various directories I have listed my blogs at. Those are just some of them. There are so many others available. If you search you will find.
4. The next step is Advertise. There are various ways to promote your blogs. Certain directories offer ways of exposing your banners to the community such as BlogExplosion. Other ways are advertising through Google or Yahoo Ads — of course there are other sources of advertisements, I am just mentioning a few.
5. Key Words are important when surfers search for information online. Ensure that your blog will be listed in the first page of the search results when surfers search for information. This is called Search Engine Optimization. If you are no good at this, you can always seek the professional companies to help you. This will increase your chances of people visiting your blog.
6. The Page Rank of your blog is important when it comes to search engine. The higher page rank your blog has, the better chances your blog will be found by search engine first.
Besides the above, provide information about your blogs whenever you go. This way, wherever you go, your blog will be known as well. So these are ways in which traffic can be generated to your blog.

Increasing page views and income with your blog
Talking about blogging, I have just written two posts here at Helium — ‘How to generate Traffic to your blog’ and ‘Pros and Cons of Blogging for Money’. This topic is a combination of the two topics I have written.
First let me tell you how I come about increasing page views from my blog. This is equivalent to having more traffic to your blog. Next, how to generate income with your blog? There are various ways to do so. The most common way now is Advertisements. Advertisements can be Google, Yahoo, Bidvertiser, blogsvertiser, blogitive, etc. There are various types of advertisements — text-linked ads, banner ads, image ads, etc. In addition, you can sell your domain name if your page rank is good. The other way is to sell your products, post them on your blog. Besides this, you can sign up affilitate programs to start selling at your blog too.
