Brain Tumour
By peace | April 16, 2007

I am losing weight. I have been sick for almost 3 weeks now. I am aching and having pain. I have headaches and feel tired most of the time. I feel thirsty most of the time too and have no appetite. And sometimes palpitations. I feel something is not right with me. There is something wrong with me.
I suspect I either have some kind of brain disease such as brain tumour, or some kind of bowel problems such as colon cancer. I feel pain in the head and my abdomen. The pain sometimes radiates to my back and my legs. I was not able to sleep last night. Cancers elsewhere in the body(particularly in the lung, breast, kidney, ovary or colon) may spread to produce a tumour or tumours in the brain. These are ’secondary’ tumours. Probably I have colon cancer and now it has spread to my brain!
My husband told me to go for medical checkup but I did not go yesterday. He asked me to go again today but I am still not prepared to go. I do not want to waste money. I have fear for Colonoscopy or even radiosurgery.
The brain is confined within the skull, which cannot expand, a growing tumour increases the pressure within the skull. Symptoms of the brain tumours may result from a direct effect of the tumour on the nerves of the brain, or from the increase in pressure within the skull. I often have problems with my head — feeling heavy, pain, and vision problems. And now my immunity seem to be weak — been sick for so long. Recently I had visited the optician to change my spectacles, my degree has dropped again. Last year, I had these problems but I never changed my spectacles, as I do not know all the problems is due to my eyesight or my head, the brain. So now after my spectacles changed, I still experience these problems.
Many brain tumours are slow growing and their development is difficult to recognise. Most take from one to six months to develop, some may take several years. I have been feeling malaise for years and now is the worse period. I think the tumours are causing problems and showing full symptoms now. There was one day, I think about a few days ago, when I woke up, both my hands were all numb. Last time I only experience fingers numb. During the days and even night, sometimes I feel weak suddenly, the leg muscles aching too. My back also aches, especially yesterday and even now, I can feel the pain.
I fear to see doctor, partly because of money and partly because of fear too. For brain tumour, the doctor will arrange skull and chest X-rays. I worked in hospital before. Those people with brain problems need to do sophisticated tests such as EEG or CAT scan. Some, but not all tumours can be removed by an operation or even Gamma Knife. Some ’secondary’ tumours (for example, from the kidney) may diminish or even disappear if the primary tumour is removed.
The outlook depends upon the type of tumour. Some can be completely removed and cause no further problems, others may be much more serious and produce rapid deterioration. Gamma Knife Radiosurgery is known to be the best choice of treating brain tumours. Though it is always advise to seek early diagnosis and surgery when possible, I have fear. I am still procrastinating to seek treatment.
