Daily Care of Pets
By peace | June 1, 2007

Get to know the feel of your pet’s coat, the colour of its gums, and the look of its nose. Observe its eating, drinking and elimination habits. A change in any of these may be an early warning of illness.
Wipe a dog’s eyes daily with a dampened cotton pad so that secretions don’t become encrusted. When it’s hot and humid, exercise your dog in the cool hours of early morning or late evening.
If your pet’s foot pads become cracked, rub some petroleum jelly on them. Make dog boots out of golf-club covers, baby booties, or small socks. Sew leather or vinyl on the bottoms.
If you leave your dog outside on a running wire, install a stop on the wire so that the dog can’t wrap its chain around the tree or post.
If your pet is lame, has a stiff neck, is reluctant to get up or lie down, or has tense abdominal muscles, take the animal to a veterinarian as soon as possible. All of these are signs of pain and illness.
