Medical Card Scanner

By peace | June 12, 2007

In the insurance industry, a lot of paper work needs to be done when it comes to checking the medical history of patients. When a case file need to be asked for, such as in the hospital, a lot of procedures are involved. First, writing is to be done, to request for the patient’s case file (medical record history), and after that the letter is being sent out. Thereafter, the hospital will need to handover the letter to the relevant departments and then to the doctor-in-charge. After the doctor-in-charge had the file, endorsed it, then he will sent the relevant letter to the hospital’s reception again.

The whole process of obtaining a person’s past medical history right from the day the letter is being sent out can take at least 3 to 4 weeks. I had several experience in this. I hate it when my insurance clients need to go through all that. But what to do? A lot of time is wasted in traveling and in calling up the hospital during all these time while waiting for the report and asking for the report.

However with Medicscan, the medical card scanner, things are made easier — less paper work, increases productivity, reduce human errors and improve customer service ultimately. The MedicScan + ScanShell 800N package enables you to easily scan the image of medical insurance cards.

The images of the scanned insurance cards can be:
- Stored as a file on your PC or LAN server
- Exported to a 3rd party applications
- Published via FTP
- Sent by E-mail

The scanning and image processing are fully automatic. The scan process starts immediately upon the insertion of a card into the medical card scanner and the image processing takes place simultaneously in the background. After which the card’s image is stored locally on your PC or LAN server, or exported automatically to any application, email and FTP.

There are various MedicScan Products for you to choose. MedicScan is easy to use, with automatic card-feed detection mechanism and so on. MedicScan allows you to quickly and accurately capture an image of any medical insurance card from both sides of the card (scanning the card twice). The extracted images can be then inserted into patient’s data sheets, saved to a file, or exported to any other application, as well as emailed and sent to an FTP or web address. The most amazing part of MedicScan, ScanShell 800N medical card scanner is its ability to connect to your PC through a USB port, requiring no external power supply!
