Tembusu Tree
By peace | July 3, 2007

These are pictures of Tembusu flowers, from the Tembusu Tree.

There are so many types of trees in this world. I love plants and I study them in my botany lessons. It is my favourite subject to study about plants. Since young, whenever I travel in my father’s car or my brother’s car, I will look out of the window to observe all the flora along the road. Different countries have different species of plants. During my travel with my parents, I observe plants in other countries too.
Cold countries and hot countries have different trees. In Singapore, whichever place you go, the varieties of trees are quite standard, with the common ones like rain tree, coral tree, cassia tree, wild cinnamon, palms tree, and many more. Trees whether they are flowering or non-flowering, all I like. Each have their own beauty. Even trees with no leaves have their own beauty. However, the tree which I like and which I find to be very useful is not any silk trees or Angsana trees. It is Tembusu tree (Fagraea fragrans). As can be seen by the scientific name, the Tembusu tree has beautiful yellow small flowers. When blossoms, the air around the tree is filled with the sweet smell of Tembusu. I have taken two pictures of the Tembusu flowers as shown above. I do not have a good camera. I am using my handphone to take these photographs, so the effect is not that nice. The real colour of the flower is much more nicer than what you see in these pictures. The tembusu tree also have special trunks which are covered with an unique appearance of bark. It thus serves not only useful as an ornamental tree, but also in adding natural ‘air freshener’ to our air. If all our streets are planted with Tembusu, then we can always enjoy the sweet fragrance of Tembusu flowers.
