What $70 Means To Me

By peace | July 15, 2007

This is me in Second Life. Only in Second Life can I have a chance to explore the world. I am earning money for daily expenses. I am earning money for savings for the future. I need to earn to spend and earn to save. Savings is the prerequisite to accumulate wealth. Without savings any investment would not be possible. It takes money to earn more money. I had to reach that level first.

Every drop makes an ocean. This is what we learn when we were kids. You have to save. It does not matter how much you save but as long as you save, you will see your money accumulating day after day, and months after months. You may be earning not much from other people. But because you save, you might save more than other people. You may have more money as compared to a person who earn more than you but spend more than you — this is even worse if the person is full of debts, what he earns is all gone to the banks. There is hardly any assets with a person who is in debts.

What does $70 means to me? All the payments in advertisements are paid in US currencies, via PayPal. Google Adsense is also US currencies, but I had requested my cheques to be sent to me in Singapore Currencies. US$70 means S$105 to me. With S$105, I can treat my children for sharks fins soup and Frogs Legs. $70 is not enough for the whole family to have sharks fins and frogs legs. But I would be happy if my children can enjoy them. This is the occasional ‘luxury’ that we have. Our family cannot afford to go travels. If we cannot enjoy good food, what other enjoyment are there in life?

$70 can be spent eating in a restaurant, it can also be spent in my cosmetic products. Recently I bought disposable contact lens. It costs me S$78 for a month supply of daily disposable contact lens. If I had the payment of US$70, it would means the contact lens would be sponsored by ReviewMe.

$70 is not even sufficient to pay for my home electrical bill. Every month my home electrical bill is about S$300. With US$70 converted to S$105, my home electrical bill would have been subsidised by ReViewMe. I can pay less.

With $70 I can buy other nutritional products for my family or I can give them to my parents. During the months of May and June, PayPerPost and Blogsvertise had helped me a lot. I had written various post for them and I was paid. These money had helped a lot. I can now afford to give the money to my father and my mother during Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. Of course I do not give them money only during special occasion. Our parents have worked so hard to raise us. Despite what they do, they are still our parents. We should help them whenever we can. By signing up for more accounts — my father and my mother, I can help them too. My mother is taking drugs for High Blood Pressure and every two to three months, she need to go for blood test before the doctor can prescribe the medicine to her. All these are money!

During the month of May, I had done 10 tasks at ReviewMe. If you had written at ReviewMe, you would have know that every month you can only have up to 10 tasks to write on. For the month of May, despite my hardwork — I sacrifice my time spent with children, I have to delay some household chores, but I am not compensated at all. I had stopped sending them emails, disheartened.
