Speeding
By peace | August 13, 2007

What can deter drivers on the road to speed? Some traffic police like to frequent certain roads. Drivers who are always on the road will soon know which roads are ’safe’ and which roads are ‘unsafe’. Most traffic police like to park their vehicle at some obscure places where they use radar detector to detect any speeding from any cars on the road. For drivers who are driving for the first time on such road, this will definitely a big surprise to them when they will be caught for speeding. But can this really deter drivers from speeding? I don’t think so. This may deter drivers from speeding only at that specific road, but after that, they will speed again when there is no speed camera and no traffic police. I am writing in accordance with experience and from people around me. All of them around me are like that! When drivers know that there are speeding camera or there might be traffic police around, they slowed down. After the unsafe zone, they would speed again.
Why people want to speed? Time is money. The faster you drive, you more money you earn, the better appraisal you get. Another reason why people speed is because they want thrill. Do you know that it is very ’shiok’ to speed? The feeling is very special, it is very thrilling and for some moment, you feel your ‘internal’ stress is all gone and ‘forgotten’. In Singapore, the best place to speed is Tuas or used to be Tuas, where the road is very wide and there are little traffic. Perhaps speeding is the best way to die, commit suicide too.
