Victoria Falls
By peace | August 25, 2007

Victoria Falls is the largest and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. It was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1989 for being one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. It is situated in Southern Africa, on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, and occurs where the powerful Zambezi River plunges down a series of basalt gorges in a breathtaking display of several waterfalls. Mist from the waterfalls can be seen more than 20 kilometres away and the thundering roar can be heard long before the falls can be seen.

One of the wonders of the natural world, known locally as Mosi Oa Tunya (”the smoke that thunders”), these waterfalls on the massive Zambezi River are the largest on earth. They are 61-105m high, 1688m wide, and in full flood some 545 million litres of water cascade over the brim every minute, sending a jet of rainbow-sparkling spray 500m into the air.

The town has a lot to offer, from elephant and hot-air balloon rides to traditional dancing, but the most popular activities are river-based. Leisurely cruises run upstream from the Falls, while downstream, rafts tumble through 8km of twisting gorges tossed in some of the world’s wildest white water.

Nice images of the falls. It looks as if the river was not that full at the time you took the pictures. When it is in flood, you can barely see the rocks for all the water! Its not often that you see pictures like these, you are lucky!
