Teacher’s Responsibilities
By peace | September 18, 2007
Clara’s teacher called me back just now. I do not want to mention names. I found that young teacher is normally not as experienced and ‘caring’ or meticulous to children’s welfare. Teaching in the primary school is more than just teaching the academic subjects. I had two children in the same school. Had come across several teachers. Older teachers or married teachers tend to be better. Perhaps when they have children themselves, they understand how parents felt and what parents want.
I do not blame her, but at least she should respond to me when I asked her to do so. For twice, I had given her notes, to ask her to call me back. For two occasion, I had never spoken to her at all. When asked, her reply was, I never answer the phone. I was at home when she called me. I was busy in the kitchen. I heard the call. When I ran to it, it was cut off. Next, she called my handphone. She rang three times and she cut off the line. She never called back one day, two days or even one month, two months later. If I called back, I can only ask the office to leave a message to call me back again. So what for I called again? Is it not common sense to call a person until you managed to catch hold of a person? This is the logical and natural way when I was working. If you are really serious about something, you would call again. Did she?
I had worked as a teacher before. I am not so irresponsible. Parents are very demanding now. It is not easy to be a teacher. A teacher has a lot of responsibility. But that is their job. If not why get so high pay? Nothing is easy. There is no free meals. By accepting the job, you have to fulfill your duties. Even if it was to face an angry parent. We just got to learn from mistakes and learn to be smarter each time. Easier said than done. This is life.
Regardless of her explanation to the incident that happened in school on Friday, what I really want is her reply and just a ’show’ at least to me that she is responsible and that I had voiced my concern. I just want to make sure that nothing would happen to her in future. What if something really serious happen one day and she as her form teacher, did not even inform me again. I do not expect her to tell me any petty things, but getting hit on the head and having bruises on the nose bridge is no small matter.
I had asked for insurance claim from the school. The staff has very poor knowledge about this matter. One moment, want the teacher to write report, one moment ask me to write report. I am not the witness. Who saw the incident? The teacher was present when the incident occurred. When I asked the teacher, she asked me to go office. This is a ping pong ball. It happens in ALL government bodies. Every department said that it is not their duties to do such and such things. They direct you to another line. The other party will shoot back at the department again, if not another department. What’s this? Well, why bother to handle so much when you can easily get your monthly salary, even if you work that much or work much lesser?
Clara’s eyes are so much better now. The eye drops given by the doctor is very good. She also must take antibiotics. Just another thing to say about the Vice Principal. She attempted to help when we were at the general office. We reached the office, looking up for the teacher. Apparently, they could not locate the teacher at all, even though we were given consent form that the children will be having remedial lesson in the IT Resource Room. Phone calls were made, whole school paging was made, but the teacher never responded. How can parents have assurance or peace of mind from such kind of school’s operating system or teacher?

[…] I am very infuriated by the attitude of this teacher already. I had not wished to mention the names. However, I find that she is very irresponsible at all. For not returning ANY of my call, I would have ‘tolerated’. However, she had asked the students to carry thick files to and fro the school. This is very unnecessary. A child who weighs 20kg needs to carry a bag which weighs almost 6-8kg! This seems exaggerating but it is a fact. I asked her not to bring, but she was scared teacher would scold her. She cried. I asked her teacher to call me again, but she never. Problems not settled at all. […]
