Bathroom
By peace | October 9, 2007

Although the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans attached great importance to bathing, their recreational and spiritual attitudes toward water have over time and with modern life been lost in favour of a purely utilitarian, hygienic and rather puritanical use of the bathroom. With retreats from daily life becoming more and more scarce, however, the bathroom has become a sacred space in which to perform daily functions and to relax.
To create an environment that is both useful and calm, the clever manipulation of space, surface and light are vital. With the right combination, the space can become the perfect place to meditate — perhaps with the aid of aromatherapy — while your consciousness lingers over the soothing sound of water.

Today’s bathroom is primarily a functional necessity and people rarely take enough time to think about what could make it the most special room in the house. Traditionally, the bathroom has been one of the smaller rooms in the home. It is the one area where privacy is a genuine necessity and not just a preference. More than other rooms, the bathrooms have to withstand substantial wear and tear from the extremes of temperature, steam and moisture. Any surface decoration needs to be tough, waterproof and easy to clean.
