Working Space
By peace | October 17, 2007

Planning an area to work in means assessing how important the activity is to you and how much time you spend on it, then deciding on the equipment you need. This will determine the amount of space required.

Running a business from home is not the same as sitting down to pay bills or process a weekly grocery shop online. Each requires a very different setup and commitment of resources and space, and presents very different options for ancient and modern combinations.

If you work from home it is worth committing a separate space as a work area, with specialist furniture and lighting, a phone, computer equipment and other technology. The advantages are that it will provide privacy and quiet, and you won’t disturb others while you work. you will also be able to consider its style and arrangement in its own right rather than in relation to another area.
Finding the right desk for your computer and the right chair to go with it, is essential. Creating a small-scale work area for projects like household management or dealing with personal finances is a good idea as these activities do not logically integrate with any others. A desk with drawers or compartments is useful for filing documents. Choose and position it to integrate with the overall scheme of the space.
