Longevity Buns

By peace | October 25, 2007

This is longevity buns. I used to eat longevity buns whenever my great grandparents celebrate their birthdays. After my great grandparents died several years ago, I had not eaten longevity buns anymore. Lately, I saw Shop and Save selling Longevity Buns and I bought them. That day, I steamed them and ate it with the family. They were so soft and nice. The filling is lotus paste. When hot, they were so soft, a bite at it, the filling oozes out, so nice and tasty.

I kept two pieces for Clara to eat when she came back from school. I steamed it again, to make it hot. The Longevity buns turned hard when it became cold. The way she ate was similar to me when I was a kid. She would peel off the pink skin of the longevity buns and ate the skin up first. Next she nibbled up the white bun.

I used to see longevity buns in confectionary shops. It is a rare sight now. They used to be bigger too, double the size of what I had eaten the other day. But big or small, the taste is more important.
