Singapore Flag
By peace | July 3, 2008
It must be an auspicious day. The Chinese date is 六月初一, English 3rd July 2008 or 3-7-08. It was Thursday, I saw people shooting/filming at the bridge and at City Hall. There were wedding photography as well. There were also AGM (annual general meeting for Association of Singapore Attraction 16th AGM at Singapore Flyer). It was such a busy Thursday. There were rehearsal for Celebration of Singapore Spirit at Marina Bay as well.
This photo is not clear, but it can still show City Hall and its flag, waving in the sky, so beautifully.
The national flag of Singapore was first adopted in 1959, the year Singapore became self-governing within the British Empire. It became the national flag upon the Republic’s full independence on 9 August 1965. The design is a horizontal bicolour of red above white, charged in the canton by a white crescent moon facing, toward the fly, a pentagon of five small white five-pointed stars. The elements of the flag denote a young nation on the ascendant, universal brotherhood and equality, and various national ideals.
The last time I spoke about the Singapore Flag was at my home, with Valerie, during her Maths Tuition with me. We were talking about the what the five stars of the Singapore Flag represents.
The Singapore Flag is halved horizontally - red over white. It has at the top of the hoist, a crescent moon sided by five stars in a circle, all in white. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is two to three. The colour red is symbolic of univeral brotherhood and equality of man, while the colour white signifies pervading and everlasting purity and virtue. The crescent represents a young country on the ascent in its ideals of establishing democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality as indicated by the five stars.
Ever since I stopped schooling and stopped teaching, I had not sung the National Anthem or said our Singapore Pledge. I sent my children to the school, and almost everyday, I can hear the National Anthem being played/sung in their school.
I used to love to watch the National Anthem on TV when I was studying in school, Yung An Primary School. I sang along as I watched the National Anthem, learning to sing as well…
Something sad to hear, not all people are proud of being Singapore, even though they are Singaporean. Jehovah Witness don’t sing the National Anthem nor say the Pledge. I am very glad that I had found the true religion, the truth and one and true God in this world. I love to sing, as what I had told my friend, and this is a gift from MY FATHER, and I am glad to serve HIM….
