Happy Childhood Days

Once, I wanted to give up studying. I wanted to become a nurse (but the salary was low). After my GCE ‘O’ Level, I went to Thomson Police Academy. I wanted to be a policewoman. But nobody wanted me. They wanted me to continue with my studies. So, my mother and I went home. Soon, results were out and I was posted to Anglo-Chinese Junior College. However, with the help of my mother, I was transferred back to Jurong Junior College. I remembered the face of the principal very clearly. I remembered what she told me, that Childhood days are the best and sweetest in our lives. I always remember what she said about childhood, and it is ‘automatically imprinted’ on my brain.
Indeed, childhood days are the best. They are the sweetest in my life. Every Chinese New Year, I followed my mother to go shopping. I helped her to choose candies and other snack. I always help my mother wherever she goes. Besides buying ‘egg chocolates’ and ’sugar coated candies’, we also like to buy assorted nuts, especially Pistachios and Cashew nuts.
I never have to worry about anything when I was young. I had plenty of food to eat. But after marriage, ‘filling up my stomach’ is not as easy and ‘eating food’ is not as easy as well… So much problems in our daily lives… My ‘officially’ first job was the hospital. TCL was given a chance to go Australia. People asked her to buy jelly beans for them. Everybody likes jelly beans, but I don’t like. I don’t like to eat sweet things. I wonder why all these people are like ‘hungry ghosts’, always wanted to eat, and asked people to buy back jelly beans for them as well (as though Singapore don’t have!)
Now, indeed to be able to eat is an enjoyment of life. Not many people in this world can have the opportunities to have their stomach filled with food, nor have a taste of sweets. My children love sweets, especially Clara. Clara loves to eat various kinds of sweets — jelly beans, soft chewy candies, lollipops, etc. Oh Nuts is such a lovely online store.
