History of Singapore
By peace | July 30, 2008
Saw this book at Woodlands Regional Library, and I was so inspired, so eager to find out the life of this great founder of Singapore…
I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. (John 3:3)
I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. (John 3:5)
A new life I have, my sins forgiven, ‘washed away’…. my mortal sins, which would have driven me to hell after my death, but Jesus saved me. I saw the truth, I saw ‘evil’ and God’s holiness.
I saw His Kingdom, His Love, His Mercy and His miraculous work on earth. This is really amazing, the wonders of God.
I had no interest in History at all! My memory is very poor. History involves remembering dates and names. I am very poor at these aspects. I failed terribly during one of the year’s History mid-year exam.
This is my report book, was from Boon Lay Secondary School, not a famous school, but a normal neighbourhood school. Even there is an error on the report book, which I discover only now, as I looked back one day. My age was 4 years and 13 months in the year 1984 when I was in Secondary 1!
Got 29 marks out of 100 marks for History. I did not study, I hate to study or read History. My brother and sister studied world history. But my text book only have Singapore History, and it was already so boring! I hardly study when I was in Secondary 1. I began to have interest in Maths and Biology later, which I placed more emphasis on…
This is the form teacher’s remarks: Very Quiet. Should keep working on History….. This is really a joke. This is really destiny! Look at the figures, 8 and 9, I tell you, this is really really destiny! Numbers, words, everything is all according to God’s will.
Indeed, my interest was changed… my eyes opened… and I wanted to find out more about the past, the ‘history’ and I was curious to know….. The Life of Sir Stamford Raffles and more History of Singapore now!
I thought that destiny lies in our hands, and I don’t believe in the words of fortune-tellers. But now, our destiny really lies in the hands of God! How can I ever escape the hands of God who had created this world in the first place!
