House Numbers
By peace | July 16, 2009

Most house owners are very particular about their house numbers. This is especially so for the 4D gamblers. They would want to buy 4D with their lucky house numbers. When choosing their houses, they would want to pick nice numbers like the numbers 3, 8, 9 and 7. This is so for Richard too. He had picked the numbers 8 for our matrimonial home. Most people would not want to choose house numbers with 4 as they think it is an inauspicious numbers.
This photo above show a common house number which HDB flat dwellers have. It is just a simple one, nothing fanciful and very ordinary. Nowadays, many house owners have their house numbers specially designed as shown in this photo below. This specially designed unit numbers or house numbers not only beautify the house but also enable visitors to locate their house easily — one do not need to walk to the front door to know the unit number of the house.

Richard and I were strolling along one of the estate last year. We loved the beautiful housing estates — beautiful homes with nice gardens and pools. Strolling along the estate, we could only see mostly gates. Most of the houses have beautiful gates with mailboxes attached on it, as shown in the pictures below. The housing estate was very quiet and peaceful. Walking along, I wondered how visitors could locate their friends’ houses as the house numbers were not obvious and there was hardly any address plaques too.
Searching for houses in such kind of estate as compared to the flat is so much different. It is so much more difficult to find a house in the private housing estate especially when one is walking!

Anyway, living in HDB flat, I do not have a need to shop for any mailbox. If I have a chance, I would want to decorate my house with whitehall products — address plaques, mailboxes, plant hangers, bird feeders, bird houses, lanterns, door mats, birdbaths, etc. That would make the house a living paradise!
