City Hall showing the Flag of Singapore
Located at St Andrew’s Road, City Hall has been the stage for many of the historic events associated with Singapore’s nationhood. It was here that the British accepted the surrender of the Japanese on 12 September 1945, formally ending the Japanese Occupation of Singapore (Feb 1942 – Aug 1945). It was also here that Lee Kuan Yew, as Prime Minister, proclaimed self-government for Singapore on 5 June 1959 and merger with Malaysia on 16 September 1963. After Separation from Malaysia, the first fully-independent Singapore Government was sworn in at City Hall on 9 August 1965…
Read More about Singapore Flag at http://www.peaceinspire.com/2008/07/03/singapore-flag/, which is also the day where I had captured all these images. City Hall is a place which I love to go and used to go when I was young. I went there to took photographs on my convocation day too — More photographs can be found at http://www.peacebella.com/2008/04/23/singapore-pledge/ and http://www.peaceinspiration.com/2008/04/23/sing-inspiration/.

City Hall was previously known as the Municipality. In the photograph above, you can see I had captured the entrance door showing the lamp as well. The City Hall, an architectural Heritage, is gazetted as a monument on 14 February 1992. This is reflected on the specialty plaques placed beside the beautiful door at the entrance to City Hall. (On the left of the door as in the photograph. Note that they are plaques and not doorbells!) You can see these plaques clearer (larger, close-up view) at the photograph below. The red circular one shows the official surrender ceremony of the Japanese forces in 1945, while the square plaque shows the Architectural Heritage Good Effort Awards 1994 by the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
Walking past this building, not only does its overall great architectural fascinate me, I am also captivated by its beautiful door, which has special Lion Head knocker on it. I should say that this national monument is really a beauty. Every part of it is so nice — its walls, pillars, beams etc. No wonder so many people (including myself) come here for photography.
