Delicious Laksa

By peace | May 19, 2010

What was being displayed on the wall showing Laksa, S$2.50

This Laksa definitely looks delicious. The cockles look so fresh and the price is cheap! However, things are not that simple…

What makes me want to eat Laksa? The most important thing is of course the flavour… the gravy that is spicy, the unique taste of Laksa… with its delicious ingredients — cockles and Tau Pok (bean curd).

Different stalls have different ingredients to their Laksa. Some Fish Balls Noodle Food Stall put pork in the Laksa, while some others put chicken (shredded chicken) and still others put prawns. Laksa are mainly sold in Fish Balls Food stalls. However, not all food vendors put fish balls into their Laksa. Some Laksa contains half a portion of a hard-boiled egg. Nobody seems to add any vegetables to Laksa, although some Laksa seller put bean sprouts in it. I love it.

Another type of Laksa is Laksa Yong Tau Fu. Over here, you can choose what ingredients you want and they just add in the Laksa gravy. Sometimes, these stall sellers will name them Curry Yong Tau Fu instead of Laksa, but they are basically quite the same, depending on their ingredients used also. Some Laksa gravy taste more of the dry shrimp and you really can see it inside. I don’t really like it. I prefer ‘smooth’ gravy with no such residue (like the dry shrimps).

To add flavour to the Laksa, you can have a choice of adding curry leaves (crushed) and extra chilli on it. Some people do not like the smell of the curry leaves. But I prefer to add it. Together with curry leaves, chilli and cockles, and a nice Laksa gravy and Tau Pok, this will make delicious Laksa — of course, you can choose your preference choice of noodles to go with it.

Not many people eat cockles, for fear of getting Hep B or some other infectious disease. Without cockles, Laksa lost all its meaning… Without Tau Pok, the Laksa is not Laksa either. Every single ingredients just have its own characteristics to add up to a delicious bowl of Laksa…

However, I did not finish my bowl of Laksa at The Oasis, Blk 347 Bukit Gombak. The Oasis, sound so nice. It’s as though I can have a good rest there, after walking for a distance from Bukit Gombak MRT Station… but it was not like that…
