Practice What You Preach
By peace | June 30, 2010
Photograph showing the correspondence letter given to parents from QiHua Primary School for P5 Thinking Skills Programme
In the photograph above, notice that the letterhead contains no email address of the school. Compare this with “Notification of School Activity” form given earlier which contains the school’s email address. See the various ‘patterns’ of Letterheads by this school — as mentioned(in my posts, if you have followed me) I had seen the various forms… See the various forms of letterheads which just ONE DAY I can get from this school!
Note that I had circled the words “Through The Principal” in the above photograph showing the letter on Thinking Skills Programme. I had underlined the words “Schedule will be given later” also because these FACTS ARE NOT CORRECT.
As stated in the letter itself, “The curriculum is developed after years of research thinking skills. The programme will prepare your child to better understand facts, develop an inquiring mind, create solutions and eventually become people who can excel in the super-competitive global market place.“
The person who wrote this letter is HOD, Head of Department SCIENCE, Thinking Programme I/C! Don’t you find this ridiculous! The teachers, HOD some more, cannot get her facts right even!
This idiom, practice what you preach means “Do yourself what you advise others to do.” Behave as you would have others behave — eg. You keep telling us to clean up, but I wish you’d practice what you preach .

Poor Planning
1. Printing not well done: Should have printed the ‘in-depth description of the course’ together with the cover page so that parents can have future reference to the notes.
2. Letters issued and scheduled dates of letter given was in reverse order.
In addition to poor planning — issuing the scheduled dates and letter in reverse order, the letter did not contain the right FACTS. There were “ERRORS” to be amended, but NOTHING was done.
Lets take a look at the very obvious error below:
Photograph showing the Reply Slip at the back of the ‘in-depth description of the course’, supposed to hand in to the teacher.
Note the bottom line in this photograph above, which state: Please return this reply slip with FORM A (if applicable) or cash by 30 June 2010 to the form teacher.
Look at the photograph below for what was given to me in another separate sheet of paper, not stapled together with the letter.
Photograph of a loose sheet of paper, known as FORM E3, for the withdrawal of Funds From the children’s Edusave Account.
While filling up these forms, I had a hard time THINKING, trying to put things RIGHT. There was no FORM A, and there is only FORM E3, and I have to figure out all the information presented to me on this day and the day before… This is really VERY POOR PLANNING and very poor coordination on the parts played by the school.
The HOD being the HEAD Of the DEPARTMENT had done such a grave mistake. However, such letters was gone THROUGH the principal. DID the Principal opened her eyes, opened her heart to read and vetted everything? Or did she not?
Is this the kind of WORK produced by the HEAD of the department and the HEAD of the SCHOOL, a place for children to learn? A place called SCHOOL for children to EXCEL?
My sister once said about the name of this school. “Qi Hua” just what is the meaning of these words when you heard of people saying these words? My sister is Chinese educated. My Chinese is no good. She is ‘laughing’ at this school… Is this really a MOCKING SCHOOL called “QI HUA”? Is it the real meaning of the school?

[...] The school is teaching the students about Critical Thinking or Analytical Thinking Skills. I really wonder if they Practice What they Preach… [...]
