Clara feeding Koi at Suntec City Koi Garden

On 2 September 2010, our family went to Suntec City Koi Garden. Clara bought a packet of pelleted fish food at the kiosk, just opposite the pond, somewhere near the entrance. It cost S$2.

While Clara was feeding the fish, I brought Isaac around.  After Richard came to join us, he helped me with Isaac and I can read some information about the Koi Garden — Some facts about Koi, as can be seen from below:

Fish and Feng Shui
In Asian Symbolism, water and fish represent abundance and prosperity. Water is an important element in feng shui, the 4000 year old Chinese art of promoting health, wealth and happiness by harnessing positive energy, ‘qi’, from the environment.

Water is believed to be an ideal place for qi to collect. Quite often a fountain or pond is incorporated into an interior or landscape to improve the flow of energy and therefore enhance prosperity. Fish are thought to add a slight motion to the water, keeping the qi moving. And for many, the most auspicious fish to keep is the Koi.

Living Jewels
Koi are the most colourful members of the carp family, which is why they are often referred to as ‘living jewels’. Their Japanese name, nishikigoi, means brocade carp after the beautiful Japanese brocade robes.

Koi can have many combinations of colours and patterns including red, white, yellow, black and orange. Some Koi even have metallic silver or gold scales.

Koi grow to an average length of 20 to 22 inches and, with proper nutrition, can live to an average age of 50 to 70 years. The record lifespan is held by a 226 year old female Koi who was passed down through many generations of the same family, a tradition in Japan.

While observing the fish, as I was having a shock after observing how all the fish had become so fat and sluggish and INACTIVE (in fact), I was so surprised to find the above banner with these words written on it: The Koi are on a special diet to keep them active and healthy.  If you wish to feed the fishes, you can buy the fish food from the nearby kiosk.  Thank you For your Cooperation.

It was stated in another signboard(lighted): The Koi are on a special diet to keep them active and healthy.  If you wish to feed the fishes, please buy the fish food from the nearby kiosk.  Thank you for your co-operation. — The Management Corporation Strata Title Plan No 2197 (Suntec City)

I wonder if these were really the healthy diet the fish are getting or is it due to uncooperative people?  Is this the beautiful Koi Garden it used to be?
