Sacred Heart Church (Brief History)
By peace | January 12, 2012
The Church of the Sacred Heart was built by Reverend Father Vincent Gazeau in 1910. It took him 4 years from 1906 to 1910 to build the church, which is French Baroque.
The church was built on the site of an old abandoned soya sauce factory. The original architecture of church was designed by priest-achitect Reverend Father Lambert. The Church was solemnly blessed and consecrated in September 1910 by Bishop Charles Bourdon.
Church bells were directly imported from France and were made in 1909. The bells have beautiful and intricate carvings of the Stations of the Cross, Sacred Heart and two forms of Our Lady; one with the Child Jesus and the other as Our Lady of Lourdes, Latin crosses, the saints and flowers.
